Knowledge of only college level repertoire will have little use to an in-service instrumental music educator. It is more important than pre-service instrumental music educators develop personal criteria and a process for evaluating repertoire at all levels.

Some Thoughts on Moving Forward

Trophies at competitions, degree of difficulty in the repertoire performed, or the number of performances completed will not determine the success of instrumental ensembles in music education in the immediate future.

An important part to emphasize is that the composer feels that something is incorrect or in congruent. There may be no rule or guideline that explains it logically, but the composer feels that they must continue the process of refinement.
