“Alleluia Fanfare” is a grade 3.5 work for high school concert band ideal for opening a concert.
The Spanish melody known as “Madrid” is commonly found in church hymnals as “Come Christians Join To Sing”. While the origins of the melody are not known, the text to this hymn is attributed English minister Christian H. Bateman (1813-1889).
The hymn tune is set in an AABA form. The melody has been altered within the work utilizing both augmentation and rhythmic variations. While there are brilliant fanfare passages that open and close the piece, there are long lyric moments as the melody is augmented and pushed forward by an underlying rhythmic motif.
